PLASTIC WASTE MANAGEMENT:-
Recently more than 25 states in the country have failed to submit their respective action plans on systematic disposal of plastic waste to the central pollution Board (CPCB) due till the deadline of April 30, 2019.
DETAILS:-
# A 2017 report by the central pollution control board (CPCB) pegs the amount of plastic waste generated in India at 25,940 tonnes per day. India notified the plastic waste management Rules in 2016, which replaced the earlier plastic waste (management Rules in 2016 , which replaced the earlier plastic waste management and Handling) rules, 2017.
# State pollution control Board or pollution control committee shall prepare and submit the annual report to the CPCB on the implementation of these rules by the 31st.
# The NGT in March 2019 , ordered all States and UTs (except for Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, West Bengal, and punducherry) to submit action plans for implementing plastic waste management Rules , 2016 by April 30 2019.
# The court had also said that failure to do so would invite a penalty of Rs 1 crore per month.
