CONTEXT:-
# India has set up an INDO-PACIFIC Divission in the ministry of External Affairs.
# The New division is intended to give a Coherent Architecture to the policy, Which was articulated by the prime minister at the Shangri-la-Dialouge in 2018.
SHANGRI-LA-DIALOUGE:-
# It is an intergovernmental Security Forum Held Annually by an Independent Think Tank , the International Institute of Strategic studies in Singapore.
# Shangri-la-dialouge has evolved into a Key strategic gathering of Indo-Pacific region.
# It is attended by defense ministers Permanent heads of ministries and military chief of Asia-Pacific states.
INDO-PACIFIC REGION:-
# Countries falling in the direct hinterland of the Vast Indian and Pacific Oceanic expanse are termed ' Indo-Pacific Countries ' .
# It is a multipolar region , contributing more than half of the world's GDP and population.
IMPORTANCE OF DIVISION:-
# The decision will Integrate the Indian Ocean RIM Association (IORA) , ASEAN , Region and QUARD.
# India is Planning to Put greater energy to the IORA because the Core of the Indo-Pacific policy is rotated in the Indian Ocean.
# U.S also Recently Renamed It's Pacific command to the Indo-Pacific command as it seeks to give significance to the Indo-Pacific policy.
INDIAN OCEAN RIM ASSOCIATION:-
# It is an Inter-governmental Organisation which was established on 7 March 1997.
# IORA has 21 Member States , Mainly Littoral Indian Ocean States , and 7 Other States and Dialogue Partners.
IORA MEMBER STATE NAMELY:-
AUSTRALIA , BANGLADESH , COMOROS , INDIA , INDONESIA , IRAN , KENYA , MADAGASCAR , MALAYSIA , MALDIVES , MAURITIUS , MOZAMBIQUE , OMAN , SEYCHELLES , SINGAPORE , SOMALIA , SOUTHAFRICA , SRILANKA , TANZANIA , THAILAND , UNITED ARAB EMIRAT (UAE) , YEMEN.
QUAD MEMBERS:-
It is the grouping of four democracies- INDIA , AUSTRALIA , U.S , JAPAN.
ASEAN MEMBERS:-
BRUNEI , CAMBODIA , INDONESIA , LAOS , MALAYSIA , MAYANMAR , PHILIPPINES , SINGAPORE , THAILAND , VIETNAM.
